SSP1(L) and Link Letter Setup
Use
SSP1 (L) is a record from a previous employer / contractor, which is issued on request to employees who have received SSP in the 8 weeks before they stop working for that employer / contractor prior to 27 October 2008. As part of the Government's Welfare Reforms on 27 October 2008, this form became obsolete. From that date, any period of SSP with a previous employer no longer counts towards an employee's maximum entitlement.
Note
Employee paid 28 weeks SSP from a former employer within linking period
Prior to 27 October 2008,
An employee is not entitled to SSP if:
- they have been paid 28 weeks' SSP from a former employer, and
- the gap between the first day of the PIW with their new employer and the last day of SSP paid by the previous employer is eight weeks, (56 days) or less.
From 27 October 2008,
Any period of SSP with a previous employer no longer counts towards an employee's maximum entitlement to SSP.

SSP1 (L) (Record from Previous Employer / Contractor)
- SSP1 (L) Ref.: The SSP1 (L) reference will be displayed here.
- (Date 1) The first day of sickness that has been taken into account for SSP was: The Period of Incapacity for Work start date that was taken into account for SSP at previous employment will be displayed here.
- (Date 2) The last date the previous employer / contractor had paid SSP for was: This field displays the Period of Incapacity for Work end date which was taken into account for SSP paid by the previous employer.
- The number of weeks of SSP that your employee was entitled to: The number of weeks of SSP that your employee was entitled to in the previous employment will be displayed here.
Link Letter Details (From Jobcentre Plus or Social Security Office)
- Link Letter Ref.: The link letter reference will be displayed here.
- Link Letter Form Name: The link letter form name given by the Department for Work and Pensions offices will be displayed here.
- Link Letter Start Date: The Start date, which is given on the Link letter form will be displayed here.
- Link Letter Form Weeks: The number of weeks that is detailed on the Link letter form will be displayed here.
